As part of the world’s leading food and nutrition business, Nestlé UK & Ireland faces a constant challenge to maintain and increase its market leadership. The attraction and employment of the most talented candidates from the industry is one of its key strategies.
Nestlé UK & Ireland has established a Recruitment Services team which is recognised as the benchmark in leading recruitment practices. The team of specialist recruiters work with the business to proactively identify and fill their talent gaps.
The team then undertake much of the recruitment themselves, but where there is a specialist role or a shortage of resource, the team appoint one or more of their external recruitment partners to work on the vacancies on their behalf.
Partnering with Expion
James Didgiunaitis, Expion’s founder, had undertaken a number of recruitment projects for several different areas of Nestlé since 2001. When the Nestlé UK & Ireland Recruitment Services team was established, James secured a position as one of three recruitment suppliers on a “B” list.
Expion was appointed to work on a few vacancies when those on the “A” list where unable to support. Thanks to excellent performance and positive candidate and hiring manager feedback, Expion were promoted to the “A” list within a year.
James and the Expion consultants who worked on the Nestlé vacancies understood and respected the “rules” that were established by the Recruitment Services team. They worked to support this team, providing market information and insight, and building up a relationship of trust, understanding and mutual respect. Expion were then able to build good relationships with Nestlé department heads – with the support of the Recruitment Services team.
There have been a couple of changes of personnel within the Nestlé central Recruitment team and Expion have ensured that support is given to the new member of staff and that a strong individual relationship is built as soon as possible.
Since being appointed, Expion have now recruited for a wide range of skills for all of the Nestlé UK business units including challenging positions such as bilingual Chinese/British engineers based in the York R&D centre.
In addition, Expion have successfully recruited for Nestlé businesses outside the UK including a Chocolate Wafer Biscuit Specialist based in Santiago, Chile.
Outcome & Results
Since being appointed as a preferred supplier to the Nestlé UK & Ireland Recruitment Services team, Expion has recruited more than 50 members of staff for the business in areas as diverse as R&D, engineering, production, operations and quality.
Expion undertakes more than a third of the external recruitment for Nestlé UK in these specialist skill areas.
The Expion consultants understand that working with an internal recruitment team requires trust, communication and complete compliance to the internal systems and processes. Expion has been recommended to international parts of the Nestlé organisation thanks to this high level of customer service.
