Airedale International are the UK’s leading manufacturer of bespoke air conditioning units to customers in multiple sectors. In order to maintain and increase their market leadership, they adopted a new strategy of recruiting experts from other industries that were focussed on bespoke, precision manufacturing to the highest quality.
The HR Director had worked with Richard Clegg at Expion in the past and approached him to discuss how Expion could help to identify the right candidates for Airedale, with particular focus on a high calibre Design Engineer for the Leeds site.
Expion developed a specification for the Design Engineer position. Richard saw that the ideal candidate would not only bring significant knowledge of product design but also have excellent interpersonal skills to be able to manage customers. Richard developed a plan involving selected advertising and a search campaign targeted at candidates working in precision manufacturing including the automotive, electronics and aerospace sectors.
Search & Selection
The advertising and search campaign was launched with a specific focus on attracting candidates with both expertise and the right attitude to change management. A good number of candidates were considered and Richard developed a shortlist of candidates, interviewing all in person, before presenting Airedale with a shortlist of the three top candidates.
Following in-depth interviewing, a candidate with automotive and aerospace industry experience was selected and joined Airedale as Design Engineer less than 3 months after the project started.
The senior management at Airedale were delighted with the success of the recruitment campaign for the Design Engineer and within a few months asked Expion to recruit for two further Engineers. A similar process was followed and two excellent candidates were appointed from a shortlist provided by Expion.
