Targeted Search allows Princes to take control of Maintenance

The Challenge

Princes Group is one of the world’s leading manufacturer of soft drinks both under its own brand and for customer own-brand ranges. The Princes factory in Bradford uses the most advanced blow moulding technology for manufacturing plastic drinks bottles.

Historically Princes had relied on the manufacturer of the technology to provide a maintenance service. Princes decided to take control of the maintenance process and therefore needed to recruit a manager with significant experience of blow moulding technology to run the new in-house maintenance function.

Market Mapping

Expion’s initial action was to map out the market for candidates who would have the required knowledge of the maintenance of blow moulding technology. Expion researched the sector to create a detailed map of companies involved in the technology including manufacturers, distributors and users.

Targeted Search

From the knowledge gained in the market mapping exercise, Expion consultants could target specific companies and identify potential candidates working in these businesses. Through networking and recommendation, an initial long-list of candidates was identified.

The candidate would not only need to be a specialist in blow moulding technology, they needed to have a solid background in mechanical engineering. The most important factor was that they needed to be a good communicator and relationship-builder as they would need to engage with other managers and gain the support of the team.

Through in-depth interviewing, the long-list was filtered down to a shortlist of four candidates which was submitted to Princes, all with relevant experience and skills. The project then was delayed but Expion kept in regular touch with the candidates to ensure that they were aware of what was happening and that they did not lose interest in the opportunity.

When Princes were ready to undertake the final interviews, all candidates were still keen and available, and Princes were impressed with the skills and knowledge they had. One candidate was selected and is now actively working for Princes in the new position.

Successful Outcome

The successful candidate had worked for both a blow moulding technology manufacturer and a drinks manufacturer and, once appointed, took control of maintenance for the Princes Bradford site. Expion is a preferred recruitment partner to Princes Group and successfully recruits more than a dozen senior candidates every year for the business.
