The Role
This is an excellent opportunity to join the manufacturing division of a fast-growing furniture business. Reporting to the Manufacturing Operations Director the Production Manager will be responsible for, hitting key production KPI's such as on time delivery rate, returns rates, productivity and efficiency targets and cost savings. You will also be responsible for managing and leading a team of Production Operatives including Departmental Supervisors and Production Planning staff. The role will also include a strong focus on continuous improvement, using lean manufacturing principles giving autonomy to identify and implement changes.
Key Skills
- Full autonomy for the management and leadership of the Upholstery Production team
- Achieving productivity targets and quality levels, ensuring exemplary health and safety standards are met
- Improving the manufacturing operation performance and helping to support continuous improvement activities and lean manufacturing
- Lead the team to ensure competence of all operational staff and implementation of staff development
- Establish and provide best industry practice and compliance to legislative and regulatory standards
- Manage production planning through weekly production & short-term scheduling
- Run daily production meeting with senior operatives
- Ensure compliance with Quality, Environmental and continuous improvement systems for operations
- Coaching the Production Supervisors and Production Operators so that they are sufficiently trained, motivated and developed to meet production goals
- Control the operational conditions that influence the costs in such a way that business objectives are met
The ideal candidate will:
- Be educated to HNC/D or Degree level
- Have a minimum of 8 years experience in production, ideally in the non-food consumer goods or engineered products industry. Experience working within furniture or textiles would be advantageous
- Have at least 5 years management experience
- Have experience in working with and implementing lean manufacturing initiatives
- Be able to deliver targets for production and improvement while working within budgetary constraints
- Have excellent people management skills
- Be able to demonstrate a strong track record of developing talent from within
- Be able to consistently lead by example building effective team relationships and a team orientated culture in order to achieve success
